Commemorating Clean Up the World and the 2nd Recycling Fair: A Step Towards a Cleaner Seychelles

To commemorate Clean Up the World, the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Landscape and Waste Management Agency (LWMA), hosted the launch of the 2nd Edition of the Recycling Fair last Friday, September 20th, at Camion Hall. The fair provided a platform for private businesses to showcase innovative products created from recycled waste materials, while also raising awareness on sustainable waste management.

The Minister for Environment, Mr. Flavien Joubert, emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining a clean environment. In his address, he urged members of the public to dispose of their waste properly and to respect the facilities in place. He underscored that keeping our homes and the country clean must be a collective effort, with each person committing to play their part.

Minister Joubert also highlighted the achievements of LWMA in educating the public about waste management and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving waste disposal facilities across the country. He took the opportunity to commend private companies, NGOs, government entities, and individuals who have actively participated in Clean Up the World activities.

Ms. Jeannette Larue, also present at the event, shared insights into the objectives of the Recycling Fair. She explained that it was not just an exhibition but also a competition, where participants would be judged on the creativity and quality of their recycled products.

The CEO of LWMA expressed his appreciation to his staff for their continued efforts in educating the public about proper waste disposal. He called upon everyone to take responsibility for their waste and dispose of it appropriately. The Recycling Fair was officially launched after his speech, marking the start of a new chapter in promoting recycling efforts nationwide.

The event was further enlivened by performances from Navigation band, a group of eight students from Pointe Larue Secondary School. They performed two songs, “Nou Lanvironman I Presye” and “Lafors Manman,” both of which conveyed powerful messages about environmental protection.

Following the launch, Minister Joubert toured the exhibition, where he had the opportunity to witness firsthand the impressive products created from recycled materials. The fair was a testament to the growing awareness and participation in sustainable practices by various sectors in Seychelles.
