The Government of Seychelles is committed to ensuring a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy supply while advancing national efforts to address climate change. As a small island developing state, Seychelles recognises the urgent need to transition towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient future.
Seychelles benefits from strong potential for renewable energy, particularly solar and wind. While initial steps have been taken—such as wind energy development and rooftop solar installations—the country is actively accelerating its transition to cleaner energy sources.
The Ministry is leading the development and implementation of a national Renewable Energy Roadmap, aligned with Seychelles’ climate commitments under its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). Through this, the country aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transform its energy sector.
Our vision is to progressively reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and transition towards a predominantly renewable energy-based system. This includes promoting investment in renewable technologies, strengthening institutional and technical capacity, and introducing incentive mechanisms to encourage private sector participation.
Key priorities include:
- Expanding the use of renewable energy, particularly solar and wind
- Improving energy efficiency across sectors
- Supporting sustainable transport solutions, including e-mobility
- Reducing dependence on diesel-based electricity generation
- Enhancing energy security and resilience
The Ministry works in close collaboration with key partners, including the Utilities Regulatory Commission (URC) and the Public Utilities Corporation, to drive the country’s energy transition.
Through these efforts, Seychelles is working towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future that supports economic growth while protecting the environment for generations to come.
