Ambassador of Switzerland Pays Courtesy Call on Environment Minister

The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Natural Resources welcomed H.E. Mr. Stefano Toscano, Ambassador-designate of Switzerland to Seychelles, for a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Minister Marie-May Jeremie highlighted Switzerland’s consistent diplomatic support for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), particularly in advocating for the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index and reforms within international financial institutions.

She also underscored the importance of continued technical cooperation in areas such as strategic planning and solid waste management.

Ambassador Toscano reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to deepening cooperation, including through regional collaboration in the Indian Ocean, notably via the Indian Ocean Commission.

Both parties reiterated their shared commitment to building resilience and advancing sustainable development through strong bilateral partnership.

Seychelles established diplomatic ties with the Confederation of Switzerland in 1981, building on historical ties dating back to the 19th century with the arrival of Swiss Capuchin missionaries who contributed significantly to education in Seychelles.
