The High Commissioner-designate of the Republic of India to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Mr. Rohit Rathish, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Mr. Flavien Joubert, at his office at the Oliaji Trade Centre on Friday, 26th September.
Minister Joubert warmly congratulated His Excellency on the submission of his credentials and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure in Seychelles.
The meeting provided an opportunity for fruitful discussions on areas of mutual interest and cooperation. Central to the dialogue was agriculture development, with the Minister highlighting the importance of strengthening livestock and crop production in Seychelles. He emphasized the need for innovative solutions to help farmers increase yields in line with changing climate conditions, particularly in specialized areas such as mushroom cultivation. The Minister also welcomed the prospect of lecture opportunities at the Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture (SIAH), both in-person and virtually, to empower young people aspiring to build careers in the sector.
Discussions further extended to climate change and the environment, where Minister Joubert underscored the importance of advancing renewable energy initiatives as well as providing high-tech training for environment officers. He welcomed initiatives that would see scientists design tailored programs to enhance the technical skills of local officers, particularly in the area of coastal protection a matter of growing concern for Seychelles.
His Excellency, for his part, expressed his deep interest in supporting the Ministry’s initiatives and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Government of Seychelles on future projects that will benefit the country’s agricultural, climate, and environmental priorities.
