The Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Mr. Flavien Joubert, met this morning with the outgoing Ambassador of France to Seychelles, H.E. Olivia Berkeley Christmann, as she concludes her three-year tenure in the country.
During their discussion, Minister Joubert and Ambassador Christmann reflected on the strong partnership between Seychelles and France, particularly in areas of climate change, agriculture, and environmental protection.
They touched on Seychelles’ position at the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), held in Nice early July this year, as well as priorities ahead of the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP30), to be held in Belém, Brazil mid-November 2025. Minister Joubert also shared insights into upcoming national projects in the climate change sector, and highlighted ongoing initiatives in agriculture and environmental management.
The two also discussed continuing collaboration in key areas such as waste management, mangrove protection, and research partnerships with CIRAD (the French Centre for International Cooperation in Agricultural Research for Development, based in Réunion Island), while exploring further opportunities for regional cooperation with neighboring islands.
In closing, Ambassador Christmann formally commended Minister Joubert for his commitment and extended her gratitude for the fruitful collaboration over the past three years.
Minister Joubert, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment and on behalf of the Government of Seychelles, thanked Ambassador Christmann for her dedicated service and wished her every success in her future endeavors.
