In celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity, the Environment Department hosted a vibrant and engaging Biodiversity Roadshow at Camion Hall on Wednesday, 22nd May. The event brought together a diverse range of partners, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector representatives, to showcase their contributions towards this year’s theme: “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.”
The roadshow featured interactive exhibitions that highlighted ongoing efforts to protect Seychelles’ unique biodiversity. From marine to terrestrial conservation projects, they each display underscored the importance of aligning human activities with the natural world. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about various conservation strategies, ask questions, and engage with professionals working on the front-lines of environmental protection.
To further amplify the event’s impact and reach, the entire roadshow was broadcast live on the Environment Department’s official Facebook page, with the support of a production team from Rise Production. Throughout the day, live interviews were conducted with all participating partners, giving them a platform to explain their contributions and initiatives aligned with the theme. This initiative allowed members of the public who could not attend in person to engage
with the event in real time and learn more about Seychelles’ biodiversity efforts.
A key highlight of the day was the Photography Competition Awards Ceremony, where the Department recognized individuals who creatively captured the beauty and importance of biodiversity through the lens. Rafaela Gameiro was announced as the overall winner for her stunning photograph that vividly depicted the connection between nature and sustainable living. She received a token of appreciation from the Ministry of Environment and the Seychelles Ports Authority, in recognition of her artistic contribution and commitment to environmental awareness.
The Environment Department expressed its gratitude to all participants, partners, and the public for their continued support. The Department reaffirmed its commitment to fostering collaboration and public engagement in the protection of the country’s natural heritage. The event served as a reminder that sustainable development is only possible when humans live in harmony with nature.
