Quest International University Hosts First Training for Agriculture Department Officers and Farmers in Seychelles

The Quest International University, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, recently conducted a training session on the basics of hydroponics and tissue culture. The training took place both virtually and in person at the Anse Boileau Crop Research Centre on Monday, 2nd September, and Tuesday, 3rd September 2024, facilitated by lecturers from the University.

The Minister of Agriculture, Climate Change, and Environment officially inaugurated the training session with a remarkable and motivational speech, setting the tone for the event. Mr. Nicholas Goh, the Chief Executive Officer of Quest International University, also delivered a speech, expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to facilitate such vital training. He emphasized the University’s commitment to continuously support initiatives that make agriculture more sustainable, appealing to the youth, and contributing to its modernization.

The objectives of the hydroponics and tissue culture training were to:

  • Provide a comprehensive guide to successfully cultivating vegetables using the hydroponic farming method.
  • Explain the key considerations for successful plant cultivation and demonstrate hydroponic techniques to the attending officers and farmers.
  • Explore both the theoretical and practical aspects of plant tissue culture, including hands-on demonstrations of tissue culture techniques.

The training marked a significant step in the ongoing partnership between Quest International University and the Agriculture Department to enhance agricultural practices in Seychelles. This collaboration highlights the strong and mutual cooperation between the two countries, underscoring their shared commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture.
