Celebrating World Bee Day: Seychelles Hosts Mini Fair to Promote Beekeeping and Conservation

In honor of World Bee Day, the Department of Agriculture in Seychelles orchestrated a buzzing event that brought together local honey producers and breeders for a captivating showcase of their products. Held at Camion Hall today, the mini fair was a vibrant affair graced by the esteemed presence of the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, the Principal Secretary for Agriculture Department the Principal Secretary for the Department of Investment, the Chief Executive officer for Seychelles Bureau of standard, Mr. Andy Ally, Chairman Seychelles Bees association Mr. Arhtur Toule-Thilatier and other high officers from Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry as well as from the Agriculture Department.

Amidst the hum of excitement, Mr. Kevin Nancy, the Principal Secretary for the Agriculture Department, addressed the gathering, shedding light on this year’s World Bee Day theme: “Bee Engaged with Youth.” This theme underscores the imperative of involving young people in the realms of beekeeping and pollinator conservation. Recognizing the pivotal role of youth as the future custodians of our environment, it emphasizes global collaboration in nurturing their participation to safeguard these indispensable species.

The mini fair served as an educational platform, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds, ranging from private to state schools. It provided a holistic learning experience, catering to different age groups and fostering a deeper understanding of the significance of bees in our ecosystem.
