Priority Objectives for 2023

Expand commercial viability of crops and livestock

We will raise agriculture production to a new level with the development of crops and livestock on a larger commercial scale to achieve a greater level of food security, import substitution and export. There is potential for product that have significant commercial value and for which markets exist, and branching off into new technological innovations to add novel product to the market.

Realising new export potential

Developing niche markets for Seychelles branded products can make a contribution to foreign exchange earnings. Our Government will set up the appropriate platform to promote enterprises that achieve this.

Protect agricultural land

Our Government will legislate protection of agricultural land. It will review our land use plan to identify areas with agricultural potential, engage in their development and ensure against encroachment.

Use our outer islands

Our outer islands represent a large part of our territory and a considerable part of our land surface. We will integrate them into a national plan for agricultural development, alongside development of other sectors such as tourism and fisheries.

Rehabilitate our hillsides and forests

A large part of the land surface of our main islands has been taken over by invasive species. We will launch a national effort to clear out such species and restore useful, desirable and beneficial vegetation. This goal also coincides with our mission for safeguard our natural environment.

Improved effective, efficient support service to farmers – extension & Vet service, inputs, equipment

Support modernization of production – work to improve method, introduction of technologies demonstrations, better technical services: research station, laboratories. Improved practice of staff and farmers: education for all in the sector, SIAH, skilled staff, supply key knowledge areas such as financial management. Business Facilitation- land, capital, labour, irrigation, road access, market space, processing space, improved regulatory and fiscal space. Information to practitioners, research, updates. International cooperation: Work with key project partners, funding institutions, learning institutions, international agreement. Trade and market intelligent: Continuous interaction on SPS, maintenance of trade information, import.
